We had the pleasure of working on the new out of hours GP Centre which is located below a new state-of-the-art helipad at the Northern General Hospital. The centre offers faster treatment than A&E for patients with minor or less urgent illnesses.
The new £2 million helipad located on top of the centre which has been funded by Sheffield Hospitals charity’s Sheffield Helipad Appeal, was officially opened in September 2016 by HRH The Duke of York KG.
The helipad has already provided lifesaving treatment to patients from across South Yorkshire who were brought into the Major Trauma centre at the NGH. The major Trauma centre is one of only 26 specialist centres in the country and treats around 1200 patients each year, 500 of which have life-threatening injuries. When patients with life threatening conditions land by air ambulance, they are now just seconds away from the A&E department where they can receive the urgent attention they need.
Before the new helipad was built, air ambulance helicopters had to land on a helipad which was built over 20 years ago and because of its distance from the A&E department, it required a secondary transfer by land ambulance to reach the hospital.
We fitted the whole of the new GP centre (excluding the helipad itself) in Forbo vinyl flooring.
